Stoyan Koprivlenski: “I Want to Face Ouyang Feng in the Final!” – K-1 WORLD MAX Nov 15

November 10, 2025
We spoke with Koprivlenski about his goals and thoughts ahead of his K-1 match against Hercules.

—Looking back, how would you evaluate your opening-round match against Denis Tapu?
“I think it was a good fight. I stuck to my strategy and was able to outclass him. I was looking for an opening to score a KO, but he kept a tight guard throughout the fight.”
—So his defense was solid.
“Yes. But the most important thing is that I won and advanced to the Final 8. I received a lot of positive messages and reactions after the fight, which means a lot. Knowing that the fans enjoyed my performance is what matters most.”
—Tapu is known for his punching power. What was your impression of his strikes, and how were you able to neutralize them?
“I didn’t take many clean shots. I was definitely cautious of his boxing the entire time. I kept my distance and tried to make him miss. At times, I would block and then counter—those were the moments I focused on.”
—Your movement looked very sharp in that fight. What do you think contributed to that?
“After my loss last year, I felt there were areas I needed to improve. One of them was my footwork, so I’ve focused a lot on developing that.”
—You definitely showed that footwork. In the opening round, it was you, Verdonk, Ouyang, and Akopyan—fighters who all did well last year—who advanced. Where do you see the gap between veterans like you and the newcomers?
“I believe the four who will reach the semifinals are myself, Verdonk, Ouyang Feng, and Akopyan. We’re more complete fighters overall than the others.”
—In the quarterfinals, Minoru Kimura withdrew and you’re now scheduled to face Hercules. What was your reaction to the opponent change, and how does it affect your preparation?
“It’s a little disappointing. I wanted to fight Kimura—he’s an explosive fighter, and it would’ve been a great matchup. But now, my focus is fully on the new opponent. I’m an all-round kickboxer, so I’ll just make some slight adjustments to the game plan. It’s not a big issue. I’m focusing on getting myself into the best possible condition. If I do that, I won’t lose to anyone.”
—What’s your impression of Hercules?
“He’s an experienced Muay Thai fighter, young and hungry to prove himself. He’s tall and good with kicks and knees. But in terms of boxing, I don’t think that’s his strength.”
—What kind of fight do you think it will be?
“Since he comes from Muay Thai, he might try to clinch a lot, which wouldn’t be very entertaining to watch. But if I land my strong kicks and punches, he won’t get the chance to clinch.”
—Who do you think will make it to the semifinals and finals?
“As I said before, I expect Verdonk, Ouyang Feng, Akopyan, and myself to advance. We’re all experienced under K-1 rules and overall more complete fighters.”
—Ouyang Feng said he wants to face you in the final to determine who’s truly the strongest. What are your thoughts on him and a possible showdown?
“I want to face Ouyang Feng in the final! Two champions meeting in the final after winning two fights—it would be the perfect setup. I had hoped to face him last year, but it didn’t happen, so I think this is the perfect opportunity.”
—As the defending champion, what will it take to win the tournament again?
“To win again this year, I have to be in top form in every aspect—conditioning, boxing, kicking, and movement. Everything needs to be perfect. Also, I need to show the heart of a champion. When you’re fighting three times in one day, you have to push through injuries and pain.”
—Finally, a message for the fans.
“To all K-1 fans—get ready for an incredible tournament, intense battles, and big drama! I’m ready to become a two-time K-1 WORLD MAX Champion!”
